Daddy

Daddy
Daddy

My younger brother and I didn't know
exactly how our father looked like before
death came...
One of the letters he wrote our mum was
that we would attend Kings College and
Oxford University.
That was the last mail she read from him...
10 yrs after our mother remarried
She remarried a man we came to call Daddy
He was just out of seminary, never married.
His path was clearly set for him as a
Minister of the Gospel, that was all he
wanted to be.
But to go on, he had to be married.
He chose my mum then all gates of hell got
broken.
How would he, a young unmarried man choose
such "woman"
We were young, didn't know all that was
going on.
We would see him cry sometimes in our
single room apartment with our mother.
It didn't make sense, even when mum told us,
i bet it didn't click.
Against all odds, I would say his love for
our mum won
So, less than a year after their marriage in
1995, this man had begun paying tuitions,
buying books and what not.
All for the choice he made.
He would contribute most part of his salaries
to a cooperative scheme so as to secure loans
to meet up with academic bills for my brother
and I.
He got the two of us out of high school and
universities.
Married for us both.
He couldn't own a car, he couldn't buy a land
when his mates where doing so.
You know why? He had taken up a task beyond
his pay grade...but he always found a way to
do it.
How? That I can't tell.
He couldn't send us to Kings College but he
got us a higher education.
He couldn't send us to Oxford but gave us a
University degree education.
Much more than all that, the way he loved our
mother was Heavenly.
Even our mother believed he was God's sent
that there was nothing she did to deserve him.
He is a year older today.
I don't want to wait till I can buy him a car
before I celebrate him massively.
I don't want to wait to buy him a land before
I can celebrate him.
He deserves everything good in this life.
He's the reason we got education, he is the
reason we got married
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY FATHER,
REV J.S. OLUWAGBESAN.
GOD BLESS YOU IN YOUR NEW AGE.
ON BEHALF OF MY SIBLINGS AND
THE WHOLE WORLD WE SAY
