Fiery Darts

They were two
You will see them mostly on the street
Hovering around their father's palace
Standing aimlessly
Sometimes you will see one of them smoking a cigarette
You rarely see them together
The older one dresses better than the younger one
He already had streaks of grey hair on his face
His mustache and beard are usually well trimmed
He sometimes wore the beads of royalty on his neck
The younger one didn't have any grey hair
They really look alike, the two of them
Not identical but it is very easy to recognize them as brothers
They were sons of the same Father
The story goes that their Father was once a local king
He had many wives
The first wife wanted to be the one to give birth to the first son
She wanted to be the mother to the heir apparent
The other wives also wanted this right
It seemed as if the mother to the first male son would be the mother to the next king
The King had many children but didn't have a male child
It was the quest for a male child that made him marry so many wives
The royal family had a family rite that must be done for the children of the King
None of the wives dare bring home a Bastard
The rite was so so potent that previous concubines who tried to sneak in a male child
as belonging to the king died with their babies within seven days after the rite was done
But those who came with female children were not even put through the stress of the ritual
The King was allowed to have bastard daughters but not bastard sons
The throne was where the purity of the bloodline mattered the most
A king must rule over all
Bastard or not and he must set the example from his own home
More often than not
If the King slept with any woman
Either she had children before or not
Such a woman could lay claim to favours from the king as a concubine
But if such a union results in pregnancy
The King would cater for such a woman and her family
It was a very weird arrangement!
The second wife was the one who got the male child after four girls
The rite was done after seven days
The child and its mother survived the seven days rule
The child was proclaimed the heir apparent
The first son of the King
Three months later, the first wife had her own son
Everybody rejoiced but...
The first wife didn't want her son to be robbed of the throne by an interloper
She went to seek the help of fate weavers
They asked her for this and that
She provided everything
They told her they shall reweave the fate of the boy
Instead of a crown they shall give him a head full of locked hair
Instead of a throne, they shall give him a stone to sit on
Instead of a royal court, they shall give him an empty life
Instead of reverence, radiance and awe they shall give him pity, shame and reproach
But a baby does not go mad
The sickness shall come upon him speedily and suddenly in his teens!
The first wife left the fate weaver's coven with joy
All she had to do was keep her mouth shut, pretend she was fine with the state of things
And watch events unfold from a distance
But she couldn't help herself
One day, when the children were twelve years old she had an
altercation with the second wife and she talked too much
She said "The crown of grace you thought you are wearing had been changed long ago,
You are showing off pride and shame in ignorance"
The second wife took her words to heart
She went to the diviners of life, she reported the first wife
The diviners of life checked their pots of water
They exclaimed and screamed
"Oh God! How can people be this wicked!
How can daylight be turn to darkness like this?"
They told her what they saw
Can it be undone? She asked them
They contacted the weavers of fate
The weavers of fate said "It had been woven already"
Pleas and trades wont work! What they had woven, they had woven!
She couldn't believe it!
Her son would go mad and that would be that?
She added one to two, spoke with the diviners again
Can I at least have the satisfaction of a revenge?
They checked!
Yes! You can have justice in this matter!
She gave them what they demanded
They told her the boy had been so well protected but they have set events in motion
Within six months of her own tragedy, the first wife's son would also hit his own
Five days later, the first wife took her son to the boarding school
Far far away from home
She suspected that something was afoot as a result of the things
she said as a result of the fight she had with the second wife
She didn't want to take chances!
The second wife started giving her son daily herbs
They told her it will not prevent the tragedy but it will be the
difference between violently crazy and gently crazy
The first wife's son was very popular in the boarding school
Everybody called him prince!
Royalty was in his genes
When he got to Senior secondary class 2
A lot of ladies flocked around but he loved only one of them dearly
The one he loved wanted him to prove to her that she was the one
Handshake went beyond the elbow
He wanted to be her first, she told him to swear he would never leave her
He swore!
She parted the Jordan
He walked on the river
They became one!
They graduated from school, life happened, they parted ways!
The boys got into the University
It seemed the weavers of fate and diviners of life got it all wrong
The second wife's son studied Mathematics
The first wife's son studied Business Administration
They graduated!
The Second wife's son went to serve in the North
They said it was Meningitis, and later it was diagnoses as psychosis
He was 24 when the prediction came to pass
The first wife went to the weavers of fate to say thank you
They told her there was fire in her bosom
Her son would go the way of the Second wife's son
She needed to be very watchful especially in the next one year
They had fortified her the best they could but it is likely
the affliction will come from a strange source
The First wife ran to the King
Please dont let them post my son to the North
Let him be retained here in this town
Let him do his service right from this house
The King reasoned with her and pulled some strings
The first wife's son was posted to their state
He served from home just as the mother desired
The second wife was busy minding her son and
making sure he got the best possible care
She had been told he would never recover!
Her only hope of retribution was the seed
she had also planted several years before
The first wife's son went for community development programme one day
He met his secondary school girlfriend
The one he deflowered and made a vow to
They got together once again and he brought her home
He wanted to set the forest on fire again
The lady resisted!
He tried all the tricks he knew
The lady wouldn't give him a ride
But he was not a stranger to that highway
He built the road
Why wouldn't she let him take a ride?
He was prepared to wear a condom, give her some money
Do anything she wanted!
The lady said NO!
The lady left that day
It really hurt his feelings
He told his mother
How can a girl come into my Father's palace and embarrass me like this
Without the aura of royalty and the presence of wealth i unlocked her legs
Now, even with this, she wouldn't budge and she wasn't in a relationship!
His mother told him to invite the lady to his house again
She taught him what to do
"No lady can taunt and tease my son and walk away
Am I not a woman?"
The lady came to the palace again after two weeks
The first wife's son offered her a spiked drink
She drank, she fell under the influence
He took his time
Removed all her clothes
Squeezed and sucked and triggered and fingered
Until the twerking became intense
He put his key into the keyhole, he turned it, the lock responded
He did as much as he thought would last him for a lifetime
The lady didn't come to herself until the next morning
The lady was trembling as she dressed
"What did you do?"
"How could you do this"
He laughed at her, "Smart guy"
A few hours after the lady left, he ran mad too!

PS: I sat in my office today when the elderly lady walked in
She is a widowed mother of four healthy children
A deaconess and a fervent Christian
She told me the story
The events that unfolded in from the 1970s to 1995 in a palace
She told me she was arrested afterwards
The King and the first wife accused her of bewitching their son
The case was set dismissed after almost a year
It was during the court case that she heard the full gist
She was a mere pawn in the game of desperation of two wives
Diabolic attacks came her way for several years
She eventually became a believer and grew
She got married to a good man and was blessed with children
The role she played in it as the girlfriend of the First wife's son
still bothered her sorely
She wanted to know if there was any form of restitution she had to do
She wanted to know if the afflicted could be set free
As I listened to her whispered confession I couldn't help but wander
Was it worth it at the end of the day for the two women?
Were they somehow satisfied with themselves?Did they pat
themselves at the back for a job well done?
