A daughter has a mother with mental illness

The daughter then begins to see the same pattern of behavior being exhibited by her mother in herself

She was shocked

Her mother was not a born-again Christian, but she had given her life to Jesus

She reached out to me, asking what she should do so that she won't end up in a mental institution

I said substitute your natural instinct with learned behavior

The impulse of a mentally unstable person overrides their restraints and makes them act and speak out of turn

I told her to be deliberate with restraint and to control those impulses from within

She said it is almost impossible

I said this is why we have the Bible and the Holy Spirit

The Bible changes us effortlessly when we read it and allow it to do its thing

Many people memorize the Bible, and their lives experience no real change

The reason for this is obvious

Your word have I hid in my heart, not in my head

This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, not from your brain

If you read the scriptures out loud daily and you pray in the Spirit for at least an hour a day, you will discover that you will change unconsciously

This change is so powerful that it alters the DNA

It teaches genes how to behave in a certain manner from their core

The lady accepted my counsel

This was way back in 2004

She is 59 years old now, a pastor, and there has been no incident of mental illness in any form for the past 21 years.

This was someone who had been committed to a hospital for intervention regarding mental breakdown twice before that

The doctors had told her it was in her genes

What am I saying?

You can train genes to behave in a certain manner, which is against their nature, if you will allow the Word of God in your Spirit.
