The Dominion of His Name
THE AUTHORITY AND DOMINION
OF HIS NAME
And what is the exceeding greatness of his power…Which he wrought in
Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand
in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come
(Ephesians 1:19-21).
In Ephesians 1:17-18, the Spirit, through the Apostle Paul, prayed a beautiful prayer for God’s people. As He progressed in the prayer, He showed us something about who Jesus really is, and expounds on the authority, power and dominion vested in His Name. Notice that God
raised Jesus from the dead and set Him at His own right hand. “Right hand” isn’t a description of directional or geographical location; it implies the seat of power.
When you refer to someone as your right-hand man, what you mean is that he represents you; he has your authority to act in your stead. Jesus is in God’s seat. Where exactly is that? It says, “…in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come” (Ephesians 1:20-21). That’s where Jesus is—His position of authority.
Thus, the Name of Jesus Christ is above every power, every rulership, every government, and every authority. The Wuest translation gives us a more excellent rendering of Ephesians 1:21. It tells us that Jesus is “over and above every government and authority and power and lordship and every name that is constantly being named, not only in this age but also in the one about to come.”
No wonder the apostles used the Name of Jesus and ruled the world of their time. This is what Christians around the world must rediscover today: the power of the Name of Jesus. Learn to use that Name in all circumstances.
“God is going to see me through; He’ll make a way for me, where there’s no way….” These are some of the unscriptural statements you hear from some Christians from time to time, and they wonder why their situations remain unchanged. You need to understand who you really are as a Christian; you’re one with God! As He is, so are you (1 John 4:17); and who is He? He is the WAY!

If He’s the way, which other way do you want Him to make? Understand this: nothing that you face is set to your disadvantage. You can walk through any barrier, or adverse circumstance in victory and great glory. That’s your heritage as a child of God.
Quit thinking, talking and living as though you’re in the Old Testament. You don’t need a “breakthrough” from anything; you already “broke through” with Jesus when He rose triumphantly from the grave two thousand years ago. You were delivered (past tense) from the domain of darkness, and translated into the Kingdom of God’s Love-son. You’re in the place of dominion, power and glory.
2 Peter 1:3 says, “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue.” It’s about your knowledge of Him. What becomes of your life is now entirely up to you.
The bane of Christians who aren’t walking in victory and dominion isn’t their lack of faith; the reason is their lack of knowledge of God’s Word. This, therefore, means that as God’s children, we must keep making conscious efforts to learn and be taught the Word. If you have more accurate knowledge of the Word, you’ll live in victory and dominion every day of your life, irrespective of any adversity or challenge.
Some people think and say that living in constant victory and dominion isn’t possible, and they’re wrong.
To hold such a belief is to ignore what Jesus came to do. He came to give us the life and nature of God: the transcendent life. In John 10:10 (NIV), He said, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” He didn’t come to establish another religion, because the world already had enough of them before He came, and Christianity isn’t a religion. The Amplified Classic translation says He came that we might have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance—to the full, till it overflows.
Perhaps you never thought it was God’s idea for you to enjoy your life; now you know! But how can you enjoy life when things aren’t right with you? How can you enjoy life if you’re ignorant of all that He’s provided for you in Christ? This is why you must have a personal relationship with God and His Word, so you can know how to live in absolute victory every day.
The Word of God is able to build you up, and cause you to live the kind of life God desires for you: a life above struggles and pains; a life of glory, righteousness, and dominion in Christ Jesus. You already have the victory!
