How To Activate The Anointing

How To Activate The Anointing

“Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.”

2 TIMOTHY 1:6

The power of God came into your life the day you received the Holy Spirit: “But ye shall receive power; after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you…” (Acts 1:8). However, this doesn’t mean that this power is active all the time; you’ve got to activate it. That’s why Paul told Timothy to stir up the gift of God in him. He was referring to the power of the Holy Spirit, which can be dormant in your spirit unless you activate it.

Sad to say that some folks have allowed that power lie dormant in them for so long. So, oftentimes, you find them praying to God for what already belongs to them

The Lord, through His Word, shows us that we’re responsible for activating His power in us. Paul didn’t say to Timothy, “Pray to God to stir up the gift in you.” Stirring up the gift is not God’s responsibility; it’s yours. God has already put the power in you. So go ahead and activate it.

HOW DO I ACTIVATE THIS ABILITY?

Pray In Tongues

When you pray in tongues, you stir up and activate the power, the abilities of God that are resident in your spirit. Suddenly, that power that was quietly nestling in your spirit is activated and causes a change: you’re infused with divine strength, and the glory of God is revealed through you. Some people engage in prayers only when they’re in some form of trouble or predicament, but that’s not the way it ought to be. You ought to get your spirit charged at all times by spending time in fellowship with the Lord through prayer. God wants you fired up by the anointing ever before you hit the streets, so that when you come out, you’re already dressed with the power of the Holy Ghost, drenched in the unction.

The Bible tells us how a deadly viper fastened itself on Paul’s hand one time, and all he did was shake the venomous beast into the fire and continued doing his thing (Acts 28:4-5). He was already full of the anointing before the incident, so there was no need to fret or panic. Paul shares the secret of how he was able to do this and many other supernatural feats when he said in 1 Corinthians 14:18, “I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all.” The way to stir up the power of God in you is by speaking in tongues.

Praying in other tongues stimulates your spirit; it activates your spirit. 1 Corinthians 14:14-15 says, “For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also …”

Paul shows us which is the ‘also’ – Praying with the understanding. He didn’t say, “I will pray with the understanding and I will pray with the spirit also.” He said, “I will pray with the spirit and I will pray with the understanding also.” That means, “I’ll first pray with the spirit then I’ll also pray with the understanding.”

Then he said, “If I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prays,” which means praying in tongues is the recreated human spirit’s prayer. That is where the power is. Read the next scripture in 1 Corinthians 14:2: “For one who speaks in an [unknown]tongue speaks not to men but to God,for no one understands {or} catches his meaning, because in the [Holy] Spirit he utters secret truths {and} hidden things [not obvious to the understanding” (The Amplified Version). You see, when you speak in tongues, you’re not talking to men but to God. You’re speaking mysteries – secret truths, hidden things that are not obvious to the understanding. When you speak in other tongues, secret truths and realities are being revealed.

There are times when you may not know what to do. You may need an idea, a business plan, a plan for your family or a plan for your own life. You may not even know what steps to take but when you speak in other tongues, the truths will be revealed to your spirit and you would know what to do. Hallelujah.

Say What God Says To Say, Not How You Feel

Strong faith doesn’t give up; it maintains its confession even in the face of staggering opposition. Remember, Ezekiel talked to dry bones, and they came to life; Jesus talked to boisterous winds and waves, and they became calm. You too can change any hopeless situation in your life with your faith-filled confessions and actions. The Word of God on your lips is God talking. And irrespective of what you see, hear, feel, or how negative things may look in nature, don’t stop speaking the Word. It’s the key to the miracle you desire.

But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4).

In the New Testament, “Rhema” (Greek), translated “word,” is not applied to God talking but to man talking from God.It is always about the Word that God gave you to Speak, that Inspired Word of God uttered by you

I began to practice this as soon as I received the understanding of it as a Christian; I knew that for any situation, I needed to talk from God. Whatever God says about the situation will not change the situation in the earth unless I speak. So, when you face challenges, the first thing is to be in sync with the Holy Spirit. This alignment allows you to speak exactly the words needed at that moment to effect a change.

As you pray in tongues, tune in with your spirit and have your spiritual antennae raised to receive divine insight. Maintain this posture until you receive the exact word needed for the situation, and the moment you do, speak it forth with confidence, knowing it’s God talking hrough you. The Word of God in your mouth is God talking.

Rather, He put the keys in our hands. He told us to speak to the mountain; in other words, solve the problem; use your mouth; speak faith-filled words. Mark 11:23, “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.”

Remember what God said to Moses when He appointed Aaron to assist him: “Now you shall speak to him and put the words in his mouth. And I will be with your mouth and with his mouth, and I will teach you what you shall do. So he shall be your spokesman to the people. And he himself shall be as a mouth for you, and you shall be to him as God” (Exodus 4:15-16 NKJV). The one who receives the Word will be as God because he has the Word. And the one who speaks it forth will be as the prophet.

But imagine when both roles are embodied in one person! That was God’s original plan for Moses—to both receive and proclaim His Word—to talk from God. Practice this and use it to overcome every challenge, subdue adversaries and adversities, and live triumphantly every day.

Act In Accordance With The Word You Received From God

But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves (James 1:22)

Did you know that today, in the New Testament, it’s no longer a question of what God can do but what YOU can do? He made the change in Christ and gave us the dominion, the authority and the power to change anything. So it’s up to you today to make your life as glorious as you want it to be; the key is acting on the Word—applying the Word of God.

Many have remained in distressing conditions because they’re “waiting” for God to come into their situation and change things. Even if you shout or sing from sun up to sun down that God will make a way where there is no way, this won’t change your situation. That’s because He already made a way almost two thousand years ago and made you “the way” when you were born again.

You’re “the saved”; you need to get the real picture. He calls us “saviours” (Obadiah 1:21); He saved you and made you a saviour. Many of God’s children need to become more acquainted with this truth. They’re inspired and excited to know what God can do, but they need to be more acquainted with what God says they can do.

The ball is in your court. You’re the one to do something about your situation. How? By learning the Word of God and applying it to the situation you’re facing. When you study the life of the Master, His words, His prayer life, and the instructions He gave.

He never suggested that we should whine, beg or cry to God for anything

It’s no use praying to God to send more power down from heaven. The anointing is already in you, but you have to activate it and put it to work. You can turn the power on whenever you choose, wherever you are – by speaking fervently in other tongues. So, stir up that power right now by speaking in other tongues.

If you make this a consistent practice, nothing and no one will ever be able to successfully withstand or defeat you, for the anointing makes you invincible. No matter what kind of situation it is, you’ll know it’s a done deal because you’re already filled with the powerful unction of the Holy Ghost. Speaking in tongues is one sure way to get your spirit charged at all times and stir up the anointing in you. Consciously practise this every day; stir up the anointing in your closet, and when you step out, the challenges you’ll face will be bread for you.

Being born again, the anointing of the Holy Spirit is on your life. That anointing makes your life supernatural! You’re different from the rest of the world. Your words have power because you’re an associate of the God-kind. When Moses stood before the Red Sea and God said to him, “Moses, stretch your hand over the water and divide it,” he obeyed God and stretched his hand over the water. At that moment, he ceased to be a mere man; he was in union with divinity. Why? Because when he stretched forth his hand, the hand of God was stretched forth also. When he spoke words, they weren’t the words of Moses but the words of God, for his words became anointed by the Holy Spirit.

The anointing of the Holy Spirit is for you, and in you, if you’re born again. If you’ve received the Holy Ghost, that anointing of God’s Spirit will come upon everything that you do. This is what it means to be blessed; the anointing is deposited on everything you touch. That anointing leads and guides you. That anointing makes you a success, irrespective of the happenings in the world.

The economy of this world has been designed since the fall of Adam. So, when you hear of economic downturns, don’t fear because the anointing sets you apart! Go higher, by applying spiritual principles through the power of the Holy Spirit. Never lose the consciousness of the anointing in your life. It’s for your advantage; use it for your health, academics, family, finances, and every area of your life. I’m not speaking of some oil in a bottle or a piece of cloth from a preacher, but of the real person of the Holy Spirit, and your consciousness of His indwelling and abiding presence!
