Meet your Spirit Man
Go and stand in front of a mirror and look at your image very carefully! Take your time and look at the image very well.
What you are looking at is almost exactly what your spirit man looks like!
For the unsaved soul, the spirit man looks like a dark shadow of the physical body.
It is darkness in its form!
Just imagine what you are looking at in the mirror, being creepy dark, and fading in appearance. That is the spirit of the unsaved person
Ephesians 5:8-14
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) 10 and find out what pleases the Lord. 11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness but rather expose them. 12 It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. 13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. 14 This is why it is said:
“Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”
Immediately you accept Jesus Christ as Lord and saviour, that spirit man of yours becomes flooded with light!
Hallelujah
Jesus is the light that makes you Light
John 1 6-9:
6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.
Look at yourself!
Your spirit was always the same stature and frame as you are physically. It was once darkness, fading and like a shadow. You met Jesus and accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. The Light of Jesus lights up your spirit. Your spirit now becomes Light just as Jesus is!
Apostle Peter confirms this in his writings
1 Peter 2:9
9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light
Jesus confirmed this in John 8:12
John 8:12
Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, "I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life."
So now you know what your spirit looks like!
The challenge we face immediately after this transformation of our spirit from darkness to light was how to transfer this light to our soul and body!
Once we have Jesus as our Lord and saviour, our spirit is already forever lightened up! But our soul and our Body sometimes does not catch up with this new reality on time!
You hear someone say, "I am born again" and you see no sign of the new life in such a person! You notice that the manner of dressing, speaking, thinking, behaviors and conduct is not different from that of an unbeliever
You are forced to conclude that such a person was either not born again or pretending to be!
At the other end of this, we have Christian denominations that decided to create a way and manner of dressing and acting for those who are Born Again!
The model worked for some until it backfired because it became a religious toga without the life of Christ that some people wear to convince others they are believers despite not being born again
The transformation of life we experience in Christ is from The Spirit to the Soul to the body!
The Spirit gets enlightened immediately!
THE FIRST CHALLENGE with believers is working out our salvation in such a way that the soul and the body will conform to the light of our spirit and become divinely enlightened also!
It is the ability to transform this light from our spirit, through our soul and our bodies to other people during ministrations (Either one on one ministration or from one to many) that many in Christendom refer to as releasing the anointing!
(*We will study the anointing in more detail in another class)
By nature, the human body and soul have been cultured and groomed to appreciate the works of the flesh as pleasurable and had adapted to it! According to sociologists and psychologists, on average, it takes more than 2 months before a new behavior becomes automatic — 66 days to be exact. And how long it takes a new habit to form can vary widely depending on the behavior, the person, and the circumstances. In Lally's study, it took anywhere from 18 days to 254 days for people to form a new habit.
If after an unbeliever gives his or life to Christ, he or she was not exposed to the lifestyle of Christ in order to set the course for a change of course in life. Such a believer will be like the seed that fell by the wayside and was eaten by birds or the seed that fell among thorns and thistles!
DO YOU KNOW?
In most cases, immediately someone gives his or her life to Christ, you notice an immediate change! This change is unmistakable! Unbelievers and believers can tell that something has happened to them!
In some cases, a soul genuinely gives his or her life to Christ but the soul and the body's thorns and thistles chokes the light until it grows so dim one would almost assume such a person had never been born again before!
In other cases, a soul gives its life to Christ and though there was no discernable outward change in the person at that moment, such a soul is stirred towards the things of God and finds itself an environment conducive to change! Before you know it, such a soul grows and is transformed by the washing of the word.
The Second Challenge
The second challenge is keeping the light shining!
As explained earlier, the spirit is illuminated by the spirit of Christ and the onus rests on the believer from this point to transform that light to the soul and the body!
The believer is also charged with the responsibility of keeping that light shining in a world of darkness as an ambassador of Christ and a citizen of heaven
For this purpose, the believer was given the Holy Spirit.
Kindly note that the moment any believer receives Jesus Christ as Lord and saviour, the fullness of God will be made manifest in such a fellow!
This means such a fellow already has the Holy Spirit in him too! The trinity cannot be separated and where Jesus is, The Father and The Holy Spirit will be there too!
Some believers have this initial encounter with Jesus and gave their lives to Christ and they stop here, believing they now have all that Christ has to give, these category of believers believe there is no need for another encounter with the Holy Spirit since they already encountered Jesus.
A lot of believers fall into this category!
They shun the baptism of the Holy Spirit and insist based on tradition or logic or doctrine (not biblical) that speaking in tongues and the working of miracles ceased with the apostles!
Anyone practicing this form of Christianity is not to be condemned! God loves all his children and so must we! But we must endeavor to go beyond this level.
In the book of John 14, 15 and 16 Jesus explained what the Holy Spirit will do for every believer!
(Please study the following passages and write out what Jesus said the Holy Spirit will do for and with every believer)
