The Two Kinds of Fight
Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses (1 Timothy 6:12).
Not many people understand what it is to fight, and by that I don’t mean physical combat; I’m talking about the fight of faith.
The fight of faith is the conflict between our earthly transient temporal circumstances and our spiritual realities. It is the unleashing of our faith on the rebellious circumstances of time to compel changes to correspond with our stubborn faith proclamations.
It’s not a fight with the devil; it’s the fight in your heart to overcome the challenges that you face in life. And it’s a fight you must win. THE REAL FIGHT BY PASTOR CHRIS
The Apostle Paul calls it a good fight, because it’s most honourable and you win. When He tells you to fight the good fight, he’s telling you to hold onto God’s Word, maintaining your confessions in the face of staggering opposition.
There’s an adversary working on things and trying to ensure that things don’t fall into place for you.
The world itself is hostile to your faith; hostile to the Kingdom of God. But Jesus said, “…be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33); and because He overcame the world, you have to keep the world in that position with your faith. That’s the real fight.
You’re not trying to overcome the world; He already did. So, you walk by faith in the victory that Christ wrought in your behalf. He said, “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy…” (Luke 10:19). No matter where you are, you’re triumphant; you know it and you insist on it.
You can do what others say is impossible. It doesn’t matter what you’re currently faced with; whether it has to do with your health, finances, business, job, family, academics; you say, “I’m a victor in the Name of Jesus! It’s impossible for me to fail.
All I think is winning, and I only win, in the Name of Jesus!”
Walk in the glory and strength of Christ and with the boldness of the Spirit. Take advantage of His grace and the power of His might as you unleash your faith against rebellious circumstances and compel them to align with your stubborn faith proclamations.
As a Christian, you’re in a fight. Some people don’t like to hear this because they’re just not willing to fight. Instead, they hope that things will somehow just fall into place. No! You’ve got to fight. Why? Because there’s an adversary working to ensure that things don’t fall into place for you.
Understand that the world is hostile to your faith; it’s hostile to the Kingdom of God.
Jesus, however, said, “but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33NKJV). So, we’re not trying to overcome the world; we already did in Christ Jesus and keep it in that position with our faith.
The Bible says our faith is the victory that triumphs over the world: “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith” (1 John 5:4 KJV).
Now you can understand why He tells us to fight the good fight of faith. Faith is the victory, so always see with the eyes of faith. See the end from the beginning and stay focused on the Word, knowing that no matter what happens, your victory is guaranteed. It’s called the good fight of faith because you always win.
Here are three important things to note as you fight the good fight of faith: refuse to consider sensory perceptions and focus on the Word. Secondly, keep renewing your mind with the Word, and let it be your motivation (Romans 12:2;James 1:25). Then, meditate on the Word to deepen its impact in your life (Joshua 1:8).
Read the creation story in the book of Genesis: After God saw that all He had created was very good, pleasant, and excellent in every way, He ceased from His work and rested on the seventh day. That seventh day would be man’s first day.
When he awakened, he found that everything was ready. There was nothing left for man to do except to enjoy what had been created, take care of them, and appreciate his Creator. This was a shadow of the sabbath and rest for God’s people. You were born into His rest (Hebrews 4:9-10).
People who struggle to live in This Sabbath Rest are in the Wrong TYPE OF FIGHT!
Let me explain a bit further
There are people who perpetually live a life of struggle. They hardly ever accomplish a goal without a brawl with the devil.
They’ve always had to fight their way through life, praying and fasting for days on end, and casting out all kinds of devils. This has been their experience from childhood to adulthood. They had to fight intense “spiritual battles” before they could gain admission into a university.
When it was time to graduate, the conditions were just as difficult and they had to fight the same kind of battles. Getting a job after school was the same story. Finding a spouse and raising kids weren’t any different. Their lives have been an endless string of hardships and difficulties. Something is wrong.
If you’re born again and filled with the Holy Spirit, you ought to live a life of endless joy and rest, where you heap success upon success through the power of the Holy Spirit. But if you don’t understand how to appropriate and enjoy your divine inheritance in Christ, you’ll likely live “a life of ceaseless battles,” like the one we just described. Refuse that kind of life.
Embrace the stress-free life in Christ. He said in Matthew 11:28, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
You already came to Him at salvation, and He’s already given you rest: “For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his” (Hebrews 4:10). This is the reality of your life.
The Lord Jesus didn’t whip the devil to leave us still “fighting” and struggling our way through life. His vicarious sacrifice in our behalf, and His work to give us the victory were complete. So, change your way of thinking where necessary and accept His Word today. Accept the life of joy, peace and glory that He’s given you.
The Right type of fight is the fight of faith. The fight that helps to keep your conquered territories under your dominion. The fight that keeps you from going complacent, careless, and lethargic.
