The Anointing and Your Health
Some Christians think of the anointing as something that comes and goes, but that’s not your reality as a new creation in Christ. The anointing of God abides in you permanently. It’s the presence and power of the Holy Spirit that equips you to function in the divine life.
In the Old Testament, the kings and priests were anointed with oil as a symbol of consecration. But in the New Testament, it’s different. When you received the Holy Spirit, you received a person into your life. You received the fullness of the Spirit without measure, not in parts or degrees. You have the totality of God’s Spirit resident in you, with power.
You don’t need to ask for more anointing or more power from God. What you need is a greater consciousness of the One who lives in you. The more you’re aware of His presence, the more His graces and power function through you. Stop “waiting” for the anointing to come; it’s already in you. That anointing teaches, guides, strengthens, and empowers you for success and impact, as read in our opening scripture. Walk in this consciousness every day.
Sometimes when people pray, they expect the power of God to come down from heaven and change their situation. However, the truth is that the day you received the Holy Spirit, you received the power of God into your spirit, and that power is capable of changing anything.
In the Old Testament, only the priest, the king, and the prophet had the anointing of the Spirit resting upon them. However, before Israel had kings, they had judges such as Deborah, Gideon, and Samson, on whom the Spirit came. The Bible shows us the unique way Samson activated the anointing of God upon his life when the Philistines came to attack him. He said, "...I will go out as at other times before and shake myself..."(Judges 16:20). This reveals that going out and shaking himself was something he did to activate the anointing. Note that the Spirit was upon him, but now we have the Spirit in us, and we activate the power by speaking in tongues.
TONGUES: THE SWITCH THAT IGNITES THE DIVINE POWER
1 Corinthians 14:4 says, "He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself..." To edify means to build, embolden, or charge up. Therefore, the one who speaks in tongues charges himself up, stirring up the power of God that is within him. When you activate the power of God in you this way, the glory of God will be revealed in your life. If you were weak in your body, the power would rise within you, and you would be strengthened. The power of the Spirit working in you helps you overcome doubts and fears and energizes your physical body.
Jude 1:20 says, "But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost." When you pray in the Holy Spirit, you build up yourself on your most holy faith; that is the highest level of faith you attain by inspiration of the Spirit through the Word. It is your most sanctified faith, thoroughly devoid of fear and doubt. However, some people don't always operate according to their most holy faith. So, the Bible tells us that through praying in the Holy Ghost, we build ourselves up to function at the highest level of faith we've ever attained. And you'll function at this height until the Word of God takes you to a higher level of faith. Thus, by continually praying in the Holy Ghost, you'll always function at your highest level of faith.
This is why you must receive the Holy Spirit. After you're again, receiving the Holy Spirit is the next most important thing in your life. You can't live a successful Christian life without the Holy Spirit. If you’ve already received the Holy Spirit, speaking in tongues is a spiritual necessity. It’s not something you do once and forget about until a situation arises.
Have specific times every day when you spend quality time speaking in tongues. You can't do this long enough without the power of God rising in your spirit and energizing your faith to serve the Lord better. The Bible says, "Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered..." (Psalm 68:1). Let His power arise - let it be stirred up in you - and the works of Satan, the adversary, will be scattered. Hallelujah!
Many today have been conditioned to expect certain ailments or health challenges when they get to a certain age in life. They’ve been told that between ages 45 and 50 their bodies will begin to slow down, certain pains will set in, and at age 60, heart problems may arise. These conclusions have been drawn from mere human wisdom and experience, not divine truth.
As a child of God, your life is different; you’re not an ordinary person. You’re not subject to the limitations and corrupting influences of this world. Never accept the verdict from man’s limited knowledge stemming from the wisdom of this world with respect to your health. Your body is not subject to the elements of this world and the vagaries of nature. You’re in Christ and from Christ, where divinity rules.
2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold all things are become new. This means no inherited sickness or weakness still abides in you because you are born of God and inundated with eternal life. Your identity is not in your earthly lineage.
It doesn’t matter what runs in your biological family—heart problems, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc.—those things have no hold on you! You’re a new creation in Christ, born into a new family—the family of God. If sickness tries to attach itself to your body, you say, “In the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I rebuke this sickness. I remove it from my body!”
Your words have power; use them to establish your divine health. Take charge of your body. Speak in tongues and charge your spirit and then give the Word concerning your health. Your body will respond to the Word of God. You belong to the divine class, full of the life of God! Even now, say, “I refuse to be sick. I live above age-related or environment-related conditions. My blood pressure is normal, my heart is perfect, and all my organs function perfectly. I walk in divine health and strength all my days, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.”
And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
The Lord Jesus never once exaggerated; He always spoke absolute reality. What He said above is something you should consciously demonstrate, knowing that He who said it never lied to anyone. You’re to lay hands on the sick to receive healing; you’ve got that ability in the Name of Jesus. The Lord Jesus will be remiss to ask you to do something you couldn’t do, or for which He hasn’t enabled you. He said in Matthew 10:8, “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead….” This is for every believer in Christ; step out in faith and take healing and health to the people in your world, and in the regions beyond.
Someone might, however, lament, “When I pray for people, they get healed, but when I get sick I’m not able to help myself.” Many have found themselves in this dilemma. It’s similar to what happened to Elisha who was so anointed of God but died sick. In 2 Kings 13:20-21, some men were about to bury a man when they spotted some raiders. Hastily, they tossed the corpse into the sepulcher that contained the remains of Elisha. As soon as the dead body came in contact with Elisha’s bones, the dead man came back to life (2 Kings 13:21). This happened long after Elisha was dead; his bones retained the anointing! Though Elisha died sick, God’s power in him didn’t fail. We can conclude that it was Elisha that didn’t apply that power to his health.
You’re supposed to apply the same authority Jesus gave you to heal the sick in your personal life. Christ the Healer lives in you; acknowledge this reality, and function with this consciousness every day. When you do, everything that’s not of God: sickness, poverty, death, lack, failure, depression, etc., will have no hold over you.
